It's always a great idea to protect yourself not only before and after a ghost investigation, but also throughout your daily routines as well. It's a common belief regardless of your religious path (well, depending on your belief of ghosts) that they surround us, and wander the Earth as commonly as humans do. So here are some simple protection tips that are cheap and reasonable, and that I have found helpful.

  • Salt and iron are used to ward off ghosts.
  • Smoke from burning sage or rosemary offer great protection.
  • If you seek protection from religious or demonic aspects, use rosemary beads.
  • Tiger's Eye helps protect psychics from unwanted things, but can also help psychics hear more clearly.
  • If you're seeking protection from evil spirits, carry and use a cross of Saint Michael. He banished Lucifer from Heaven.
  • The Eye of Ra (Egyptian) offers protection as well. Worn to the right invokes Ra; worn to the left invokes Thoth.
  • Clove - You can make a tea with clove and use it to cross your door. This can also stain, but it changes the vibe of your home immediately and dramatically. You can also used powdered clove with baby powder to use after showers.
  • The three best protective stones are Tiger's Eye, Red Jasper, and Clear Quartz.
  • Babies are given necklaces made of clove that are hung in the cribs - these are believed to ward off illness and disease. Be sure to keep them out of the baby's reach.
  • St. Benedict's Cross and Medal - St. Benedict's Medal has exceptional powers against the demons of (Christianity's) Hell. If anyone is interested in this, let me know and I'll be sure to post about St. Benedict.
  • If hiking or walking in an area that is full of loose stones native to the area, and the area has a very strong and positive vibe, bring a stone home. It carries the energy with it.
  • A very good plant is the Pothos. It adds a nice vibe to the mix. Roses are good for keeping negative thoughts out of a place, and if you're really sensitive to that type of thing, then they can even keep you from thinking negative thoughts. Carnations are also good, but have a very harsh feel to them, and Chrysanthemums add a nice emotionally soothing feel to a place.

Protection Sachet: you'll need a white cotton cloth that's 7 inches square, and 3, 7, or 9 of the protective herbs that can be found here in equal parts. Mix the herbs together and place in the middle of the cloth. Pinch the corners of the cloth together and tie with a red string. Hang the sachet by its red thread over the main entrance, in a closet, or the highest point in the house. This will protect your home.

Family Protection: Light a candle and pass it over every opening of your home. Imagine your home sheathed in a cocoon of light that blocks out all harm. If the candle flame flickers a lot, sprinkle a pinch of salt. If you don't feel any drafts, say:
"Love and kin,
Safe within,
Harm and doubt,
Stay without."

House Blessing - Protect Against Human Invaders: Get up before sunrise and place a pinch of black pepper on the threshold of one exterior door and one window sill. As you place the pepper, recite:
"Pepper sting rogue, knave or thief, who so breaks this bond find grief, I mean it for this window and door, and all through this house evermore."
