PostSubject: Viking Runes   Thu Oct 08, 2009 2:11 am

These runes are part of an ancient Nordic alphabet scripture. Its said they are older than the New Testament and were last used in Iceland back in the middle ages. They were originally used to directly consult the Gods, however now they are used for spiritual guidance. They help point out hidden forces which may be responsible for causing a hardship, misfortune, or simply poor decisions.

Each one honors a different God of Nordic Mythology and also has its own specific healing purpose.

Thanks for this Very Happy These are the original Runes, and those symbols are used on all Rune stones, only the names and meanings can differ from time to time, but generally are identical.

To add to your post, the Viking Runes are read from right to left and were a gift from Odin. The Runes were divided into three "families" of eight runes, and each group is known as aettir. The three groups were named for the Norse gods Freyr, Hagal, and Tyr (I don't have pictures quite yet).

Invocation of Runes:
God within me, God without,
How shall I ever be in doubt?
There is no place where I may go
And not there see God's face, not know
I am God's vision and God's ears.
So through the harvest of my years
I am the Sower and the Sown,
God's Self unfolding and God's own.

Reading the Runes:
Reading the Runes is a lot like reading the Tarot. With an issue clearly in mind, select three Runes (one at a time) and place them from right to left in order of selection. Once you have selected the runes, reading from the right, the first Rune provides the Overview of the Situation; the second Rune (center) identifies the Challenge; and the third Rune (on the left) indicates the Course of Action Called For. The direction of the Rune always depends on the outcome as well (if it is turned in the upright position, or the reverse, as in Tarot).
